COD Challengers Locked Out of Paris Major: Ticketing Fiasco Sparks Outrage — Organizers Add 15 Extra Passes
The Call of Duty Challengers scene is in uproar over access to one of the biggest events of the 2026 season.
Call of Duty League Major IV is set for June 26–28, 2026, at Paris La Défense Arena in France (hosted by Paris Gentle Mates). While the 12 CDL teams battle on the main stage, the Challengers Open runs on a side stage for aspiring pros and amateur teams.
A Challengers Pass gives a full team (4 players + 1 coach) access to compete plus 5 reduced-visibility seats near their stage for all three days. These passes are highly sought-after for exposure, networking, and potential CDL pathways.
What Went Wrong?
Problems surfaced in the weeks leading up to the event. Reserved passes were only explicitly guaranteed for the top 16 Elite teams, with a purchase deadline of June 1. Many teams in Elite Stages 3 and 4 expected similar treatment or clearer communication, but were left scrambling. Public sale passes eventually sold out. Frustrations boiled over on X: Teams reported failed transfers, last-minute seller cancellations, and scalpers charging $1,500+ per team pass. Examples included Barstool’s tBushGaming (recent major winners) and comments from organizations like Riyadh Falcons, who highlighted widespread confusion and the counterintuitive nature of locking out competitive teams. Posts flooded timelines with phrases like “Still locked out need a tp” (tp = team pass), linking directly to this trend and amplifying the drama. Community sentiment was clear: poor communication from FACEIT_COD, last-minute policy shifts, and secondary-market exploitation were harming the very players the system is meant to support.
Organizers Respond
On June 16, Daniel Tsay (GM of Call of Duty Esports) addressed the backlash directly: “We will be opening up 15 additional passes for the Challengers Open. These will first be assigned to Elite 3 & 4 Playoff teams that do not have a pass, before potentially making it onto public sale. Furthermore, we will be reimbursing Elite 3 & 4 Playoff teams that needed to overpay for their ticket due to any confusion.”
Tsay later added that adding these teams requires extra bracket rounds and schedule changes, meaning the Challengers Finals will move off the main stage. He thanked Paris Gentle Mates for their flexibility in making the extra passes possible
